YEEZY returns with a new collaboration with the brand Gap. They already worked together last summer, and this time also the luxury brand Balenciaga is involved.
On the occasion of the release of his new album, Donda 2, Ye released also the new collection of his brand YEEZY, created together with Gap and his dear friend and creative director of Balenciaga, Demna Gvasalia.
The launch took place on February 23, coinciding with the official listening party of the album held in Miami, and the products are available online on the YEEZY Gap website and on Farfetch.
In the first collaboration between YEEZY and Gap there were only a few selected items, including the “perfect hoodie” and round jackets, released in different colours.
This time the product assortment is much wider. The collaboration, called “YEEZY Gap Engineered By Balenciaga” includes not only sweatshirts and t-shirts with the symbol of the dove, which represents the spiritual path taken by Ye in recent times, but also sports pants and denim suits that are very close to the aesthetic worn by the artist during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.
Although expectations were very high, considered the fame of the brands involved and the enormous marketing around the event, not all buyers were fully satisfied with the quality of the products offered by the first collaboration YEEZY x Gap. With the takeover of Gvasalia in the creative direction the level should be increased. Until now, however, the opinions about it are mixed. While on the one hand many fans are excited to follow the aesthetic line of the designers, on the other the collection does not seem to have a precise identity, proving that the balance between three different teams is not always easy to achieve. The risk of being too flashy or too anonymous is high.
This is not the first time that high-level designers work with more affordable brands. In the past we have seen for example the countless collaborations of H&M with luxury brands such as Balmain, Karl Lagerfeld, Moschino and Jimmy Choo, that were all characterized by prices much higher than the standard ones proposed by H&M. The same happens for the YEEZY Gap Engineered By Balenciaga collection, which is not accessible to everyone. However, it is right to point out that the collaboration was designed to be exclusive and that still allows fans to have pieces signed by designers such as Ye and Demna Gvasalia.
Additionally, the marketing made by the rapper was brilliant as always, because it increased the hype on both the release of his album and the drop of the collection simply making them take advantage of each other. For this reason, Ye’s winning communication could lead to the quick sold-out of the clothing line.
