THE USA BRAND AND THE WELSH ILLUSTRATOR TOGETHER FOR A GOOD CAUSE
The Vault by Vans x Ralph Steadman collection is out. The streetwear brand, which has just collaborated with Lizzie Armanto, and the artist combine their creativity and create models of sneakers and t-shirts, in partnership with WildAid. The goal is to spread awareness about endangered species, supporting the conservation and protection of global natural resources.
Steadman is known to be one of the greatest friends of the American author Hunter S. Thompson, for whom he interpreted the words of novels as Fear and loathing in Las Vegas. And its defining itself as a cruel caricaturist gave life for Vault by Vans to «significant and revealing illustrations in order to inform and raise awareness, tackling a sensitive issue in a playful way. With his works of art imprinted on Vans favorite shoes, clothing and skis, two explosive identities come together for an important cause.» It explains the brand.
GONZOVATIONIST FOR VANS
Together with the artist there is Ceri Levy, director and writer. The creative couple is part of the Gonzovationist, a term coined by the same Steaman and Levy. The latter thus tells the project: «We have always maintained that we must make people laugh in order to involve them. If we limit ourselves to saying: “You are bastards, you have sent everything to the air, now look at what will happen”, they will reply: “Oh well, whatever”. But if you can make them laugh, you have a chance.»
Through the drawings for stories like Extinct Boids and Critical Critters, all the models of the collection for Vans are developed. Collectibles made, as previously mentioned, also with the intervention of WildAid. It is «an organization that works to reduce global consumption of wildlife products and provide greater local support for conservation projects. In addition to encouraging contributions through an exhibition inspired by donations, Vans will donate $10,000 to WildAid in order to provide crucial support for ending the current illegal trade in wild animals, protecting the seas and reducing the collective environmental impact.» The company, founded in 1966 by Paul Van Doren, Gordon C. Lee, James Van Doren and Serge D’Elia, said.
Vault by Vans x Ralph Steadman in New York
To celebrate the event, the brand will present Steadman’s works of art along with the donations received and set up in the new pop-up shop Vault by Vans, located on the Lower East Side of the Big Apple. One more occasion to remind everyone that the Earth is one and we must not throw it away, exploit it or ruin it.
