Supreme’s latest fall/winter collection, a manifesto of American culture of the 1980s, is about to be released. The capsule collection, in fact, is in collaboration with The Crow, a famous comic created and illustrated by James O’Barr.
To better understand the meaning of this collection it is necessary to know the history of one of the most famous American fantasy comics of all time.
It all starts with the tragic life of the creator and illustrator James O’Barr, who after losing his girlfriend in a fatal accident caused by a hit-and-run, takes out his frustration and anger in his drawings. The story really comes to life when O’Barr reads the story of a couple killed in his hometown Detroit, for a two-hundred-dollar ring. From the murder of the two, his comic begins and ends up in fantasy when Eric, the boyfriend, resurrects and avenges his partner led by a crow, hence the name of the series.
In 1989 the first four volumes were published for the first time, while the fifth and last in 1992. The comic with great expressive power also gave birth in 1994 to a film production with Brandon Lee, who tragically died on the set.
The crow, an icon of an entire generation of American teenagers, is a dark subject, suffering and in a certain sense destructive. Her penetrating gaze and his smile are vaguely reminiscent of another dark character from the world of comics or the Joker, who is also a victim of his fluctuating mental states and his personal suffering.
Here Supreme brings back on the garments, for the next autumn winter collection, the expressive trait of James O’Barr and the face of his character.
The most representative piece of the entire line is a black leather jacket produced by Schott which features the protagonist’s face on the back.
Complete the collection of t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, sweaters, jeans and cargo pants.
The long-awaited collection will be released in the USA on September 16th, while it will be released in Japan on September 18th. In any case, it will be available on the official Supreme website soon.
