There is a fixed point on which Pence 1979 fashion revolves around: the quality of the materials. Everything else, style, look, shape, are constantly evolving. This is how Dora Zecchin, today the creative director of the Venetian brand, knows how to make it ever more up to date, contemporary. The reason is one: be aware that you can not stay connected to an aesthetic that was born thirty years ago. Keeping only the essential elements to win the competition with the other realities, which in the case of Pence 1979 are just high quality raw fabrics, as Zecchin tells us in this interview.
The history of Pence began in 1979. What are the evolutions that the brand has experienced over the years?
From 1979 to today Pence has changed a lot even if DNA remains the same. The passion for the raw material, the fabrics, and the desire to experience special treatments remain. In the past, it was mostly jeans, while today in the collections we find great proposal and variety of fabrics. The style has adapted to the times while remaining out of the fashion that dictates the trends but proposing one’s way of life and then dressing up.
The distinctive feature of the brand is the quality of the materials, mostly rough. How is this choice? How does their selection process take place?
The first selection at every season is made instinctively. There is never a mood before selecting the main fabric, they are the ones that guide me in the realization of each collection. This is because we are deeply convinced that only a profound knowledge of raw materials allows us to overwhelm the classic working techniques and thus to invent and discover new ones.
For those who are part of the clothing industry like you, how do you always be in vogue, especially with regard to the new generations?
It is a difficult thing or perhaps impossible to explain. Surely you have to have a certain sensitivity but the daily observation of what’s around us, the people we see each day on the road give us great insights.
How is the collection for this winter born for both man and woman?
The Autumn-Winter 2017-18 collection of Pence 1979 man and woman draws inspiration from the 1970s style and in particular from the shapes and colors that made it history. It awakens the desire to mix fabrics and colors embellished with a much more striking look, creating a harmonious contrast to style and shapes.
What are your projects for the future?
In the future, we would like to be able to expand our market to some countries that we just touch with just a few retail shop. Asia is already giving good results, we hope for a substantial growth in the near future.
