A strong relationship. Passion and perseverance come together and establish the mood of Sartoria Vico, the genesis of Cristina Del Buono and Stefania Casacci’s mind. The two founders and designers believe in the purity of the silhouette, materials and craftsmanship of ancient knowledge, full of symbolic images of a fashion world not so accustomed today to the workshop. Sartoria Vico then, creates clothes for free women.
When and why did you decide to found Sartoria Vico? Why did you choose this name for the brand?
Sartoria Vico was born from the desire for pure forms, dresses able to converse with the body. The idea is to draw objects practical, aesthetically harmonious, functional, interpretable, yet simple. Clothes that last over time, beyond the trends of the season and after five washes. So a collection always dreamed of and never found. The name comes from two elements that at that time defined our existence: the fascination for the tailoring dimension, a simple place like a shop and magic as Aladdin’s lamp; Via Vico, where we shared the first apartment in Milan and where it all started.
Today the term “tailoring” is rather inflated. What distinguishes you from other tailoring-style brands?
“Tailoring” for us is a reference to an imaginary complex and genuine: an intimate, direct relationship, the way in which the matter is declined on the body, attention to detail, the importance of the materials, their quality and, above all, the ritual: choosing a dress in which to become attached, the prospect of spend much time together, the feeling that we look like it so much; like when you meet someone and you get the feeling you know him/her for a long time. Sartoria Vico, however, despite the name, using this fine tailoring to draw 100% knit-wear collections.
How did you get the idea of the “We are family” project?
We love knitting because it leaves ample room for action to the wearer, it has a liquid nature that is in tune with your body and the result is always different and harmonious. We wanted to tell this magic and so we decided to photograph a group of friends wearing these clothes designed in our own image and likeness counting on the relationship of empathy between us, them and our collection. With “We are family” we tell our vision of fashion: clothes that resemble the heart in the past and head into the future.
Made in Italy, design, functionality … How do they interact?
We never considered the possibility of working abroad. From the beginning the project was made in Italy and its production volume one of its core values. Made in Italy is a way of doing and know-how acquired over time, a cultural valuable that we did not want to give up and that gives us a very high standard of quality both in process and in result. The design is an integral part of this culture, a continuous exercise of simplification and improvements to arrive at a functional, basic, understandable and aesthetically harmonious. In this sense, functionality is an indispensable component of the project which often leads to formal results surprising and new.
How is Sartoria Vico position on the market? What are your future plans?
For the future we hope to continue to do this work with the same passion, grow without sacrificing any of our values, expand the market without losing the attention to detail, the project continues to evolve to meet and engage passionate people. Develop a distribution system that allows us to get as far as possible in the best way.
