Is it possible to create from scratch a brand of glasses made with the highest quality materials and tailored design without it becoming a logo? Difficult, but not impossible. Marco Lanero, young craftsman and entrepreneur who founded Delirious Eyewear in 2012 told us how he made it.
When and why did you decide to found Delirious Eyewear?
In the summer of 2012 I was in Cadore to make me a pair of glasses. When I went back to University in September, many young people began to wonder what brand they were made and in which shop I bought them. I understood that other people besides me liked the design, so I started to do small productions.
In an era where the logo is “status”, you went against the tide. Can you explain why?
I believe that the eyewear is a personal item and not an advertising tool: I’ve never liked the brand thing. The idea was born by giving a chance to every single customers to choose if they want engraved on the item: the brand, his initials or anything, leaving no brand.
High quality materials, creative design. How they intertwined in the production process?
Nowadays the value for money is very important, also for rich people, you can not think of selling only design and ideas, the customer needs to know that they are buying a pair of glasses made from the finest Italian craftsmanship acetates and the best lenses in the market .
Which are your costumers?
All those people who have a high rate of self-esteem that do not need a big brand to feel safe.
There is the perfect eyewear according to the physiognomy of the face of a person?
Surely there is. I’m creating the perfect eyewear glasses unisex and in one size, because I’m trying to satisfy many customers as possible.
Future projects?
I will be at Pitti in June from 16 to 19, then in Milan at White in June from 20 to 22 as well as 26 to 28 September.
