The dark style of the designer Rick Owens has always aroused success for the most avant-garde, but at the same time great critics. His is a design that turns its back on the most ordinary fashion, a design that goes against the tide; You have to understand it to appreciate and love it other wise you hate it. In short, black or white, just like the palette that characterizes its garments.
Yet if there is one thing you can’t say at all, it is that it lacks originality. Every year he succeeds in inventing something new, taking the most stylistically opposed object and distorting it with his unmistakable trademark. Anexample? The most recent is the collaboration with Birkenstock.
For those who do not know, the two are not completely foreign, on the contrary it would seem that there is already a prior knowledge. The new partnership focuses on three Birkenstock silhouettes: Arizona, Boston and Rotterdam. Three different models receive a single reworking based onthe use of black leather. Specifically forthe last two models itis iridescent laminated leather.
Important details are the straps and buckles of the same colour on which the “Birkenstock” logo is printed. Note the absence of the Rick Owens brand. A small detail that disappears in front of the dark aesthetic with which the shoes were designed. The result is a collaboration that reflects the DNA of both partners, where the details make the difference but also seem to blend in with everything else.
Rick Owens: “In addition to our extended straps, I wantedeverything in black: Black leather, black paintedleather andcompletely black hardware. In a fast-paced, chaotic andflashy world, black gives my eyes a cleanand sharp graphicformality. ”
The three proposals will be available from June 4th on HBX.
