Always looking for new trends and forms of expression, Wait team came across a new Italian project that really impressed us MYDA.
This is the first brand of dental jewelery made in Italy, the so-called ‘grillz‘.
The first reaction of many, who do not know the phenomenon, will be of shock but the reality is beginning to be quite strong and consolidated. Trendsetter in the world of hip hop music, also made up of planetary stars who love to flaunt this new type of jewelry is leading the way. And if it is true that 20 years ago, someone might consider strange a tattooed guy … who can ‘say that in a few years we will be perfectly used to seeing so many people walking around with grillz in their mouth?
We interviewed the founders of the Italian brand, here are our questions:
Good morning guys. Who are the owners and founders of Myda?
Good morning to you, we are creators of are MYDA, Matteo and Simone.
How did you get this idea?
The idea came from, me (Matthew, editor’s note) Since dental I always looked with a technical eye on what all we used to see in the video that turned on MTV. We were small and we saw these rappers filled with jewels and with grillz in their mouth, it looked like a reality far from the Milan province from which we come and instead once began studying dental everything seemed much closer. Once I finished my studies I started working in a laboratory, following the normal post-school career of every dental technician, but my head was always to grillz, so I started making them. Very little later, I met Simone and we launched in this together, with the idea of making dental jewel cross to every environment, remove a bit ‘from the rapper stereotype to make it a more fashionable accessory and suited to all, as for rings or necklaces.
I saw that the structure is extremely serious and you go from a dental office … How a persone can get his own personalized dental jewel? What is the time to make it happen?
Our procedures do not overlook anything because with teeth you can not joke. A dental jewel before being beautiful has to be sure, that is why we have always guaranteed a production chain that respects very precise quality standards. Certified Dental materials, procedures, medical consultations and technical characteristics of the most advanced in the industry make our product one of the best on the world market.
To have one of our jewels must contact us on Facebook, once the customer has chosen which teeth to cover and what material make grillz is directed to the dental office to us associated, or in case he could not come to Milan from their family dentist for the evaluation and taking impression. Once you have done, in about ten days we realize the jewel as requested and deliver it.
What is the range that you offer?
At present our product offering focuses on three basic dental alloys: 18K yellow gold, white gold and chromium / cobalt alloy widely used in dentistry from the shiny silver color. As for the design choice we can create anything in the reference quantities limits. One of the latest trend is personalization through the setting of stones like diamond, zircon, amethyst, emerald or ruby to name a few.
What are the first results on the market?
We have always believed in the potential of our product, trying to combine traditional Italian goldsmith’s art to an overseas product.
Since we started we continue to grow, MYDA today represents a challenge on the market because we find ourselves in the awkward position of having to create supply and demand simultaneously. The results are satisfactory, the phenomenon is spreading and we are making known his potential, managing to make grillz appreciated in different contexts without confining them to a single field giving the dental jewel paving versatility than any other jewelry accessory. Along with the growth of the first problems to those who, never having believed in the product right now trying to ride our wave also came often with harmful results for customers who still know little about the grillz. We will never stop repeating that a dental jewel before being beautiful has to be sure, unlike the ordinary jewelery as part of grillz determined prices or offers too tempting are often synonymous with poor quality or professionalism, and certainly not worth it ruin your smile for a whim.
What are the costs, minimum and maximum of such an object?
Costs start at a minimum of € 160 for a single item up to a few thousand euros to complete grillz with special customizations. The variables to consider are different.
Abroad, what are the most famous stars that are shown to with this new jewel?
And in Italy, you have some fans and famous testimonial?
In the US, where the culture of grillz is well established for some time many celebrities wear it, you could say that every rapper or singer who has anything to do with black music has at least one, but outside of this area characters as Madonna, Johnny Depp or athletes like Ryan Lochte and many more of ‘NBA will often show themsleves wearing grillz. In Italy we have been chosen by artists as diverse as ue Pequeno, Marracash, Sfera Ebbasta, Luchè to name a few and personalities from the world of fashion as the beautiful Sita Abellan, or Philipp Plein for his latest fashion show during fashion week.
