MSCHF has been sued (again), this time by Vans

We talked just yesterday in this article about the similarity between the latest sneakers made by the brand MSCHF and the Vans Old Skool, timeless classic of the footwear world.

Vans sued the Brooklyn brand for designing the Wavy Baby in collaboration with Tyga, which should have been released on the 18th of April.

This is not the first time that something like this happens. A year ago, in fact, MSCHF had been sued by Nike for using a pair of Air Max 97 for it collaboration with the rapper Lil Nas X. The dispute ended in the best way and the two companies found a deal.

Will it be the same with Vans? In this case, the Californian brand stressed not only the similarity between the Old Skool and the Wavy Baby in logos, colors and packaging but also declared that the product was designed for “confuse consumers, illegally subtract sales to Vans and intentionally damage its intellectual property”.

On the other hand, MSCHF stated in a press release that Vans was not only aware of the creation of Wavy Baby but that even before deposing the lawsuit, it proposed the division of profits from sales and asked to receive four pairs of the shoes, probably to study their design.

MSCHF has also argued that although Vans hides behind its incredible history, presenting itself as a “creative brand for young people”, in 50 years of production it has never received so much attention as the one aroused by the Wavy Baby even before their release.

In short, the tensions between the two companies do not seem easy to solve if we also consider that MSCHF appears unwilling to cancel the release.

To discover how it will end, all we have to do is wait and see.
