The Fendi fashion show for the season fall/winter 2019-20 is an emotional tribute by the Italian brand to the recently deceased designer Karl Lagerfeld and to his 54 years as creative director of the fashion house.
Outside the Fendi fashion show on Thursday in Milan, there was the usual crowd of an anti-fur protestors group, but inside, the story was completely different.
As soon as they entered the location, the Italian house homage to Karl Lagerfeld was immediately warned: above the entrance of the catwalk, there was indeed an installation with his famous signature, at each place the guests found a moving tribute card and the collection, under the notes of “Sono Triste” by Ornella Vanoni, proposed the latest sketches by Lagerfeld for Fendi.
Sono triste, anche adesso. Triste perche non rispondi,
Non torni più.
It is certainly no secret that Karl Lagerfeld was not only incredibly prolific, but also a master in his craft.
The Fall 2019 collection has in fact introduced new interpretations of some Fendi classic pieces, including the Baguette bag that, recently recovered, is undergoing a great boost from the luxury house with the aim of reviving its nostalgic magic. In this season, the handbag is updated in two versions, one in faux leather with a raised pad and another with a multi-strap harness. We are confident that we will see both versions very soon on Instagram.
While many streetstyle stars wore their best version of the Fendi logomania collection, Karl had foreseen a change of direction for the label with a new “Karligraphy double-F” logo, the double F crossed in italics, putting it practically on everything, from tights and socks to high-necked suits and to shirts and furs.
What Lagerfeld always knew how to do well was to balance modernity with sophistication, and all of this also appears in this latest collection.
The garments, all with a tailored cut, were sturdy and tight at the waist, the dresses were adorned with large bows on the front that extended to the back, while the outerwear featured details in laser-cut leather or with a zip. Elegance, classicism and femininity in shapes, with a hint of modernity through fabrics and shades. This was Karl.
The final of the catwalk was very emotional.
The “Heroes” by David Bowie in this case the models, have made their last run on the catwalk with their eyes covered by tears while the crowd equally touched, staged a standing ovation at the appearance of the creative partner Silvia Venturini Fendi.
In the end Fendi has shown a video interview made a few years ago, in which the Keiser talked about his first day of work at the fashion house. “I remember it very well,” says Lagerfeld in the movie drawing a sketch of his outfit. “I had a Cerruti hat, long hair, black sunglasses and a printed lavallière tie, and on top I was wearing a Northfolk jacket, an English hunting jacket, with trousers à la française and boots, and a bag I had found in Milan. It was the 1965″.
