80s and 90s broke down stereotypes about streetwear and, since it was a cult for a few people, it entered everyone’s wardrobes, starting with sneakers. Then, in the ’00s, men’s streetwear began to measure itself with the enthusiasm of the new Millennium era, thus leisurewear was born, which in some ways is pushed to the extreme, to the transcendental. The metropolis were dominated by a rave aesthetic, made of unkempt hair, maxi and comfy dresses, but also extremely slim and minimal, by that couple of trends that had remained from 90s.
The trends that inspired the designers have been many year after year. Many of these, such as rugby shirts, hair with bleached tips, Hawaiian shirts, the trend of flip-flops, for example, we can also omit them from our memories. But, you are wondering, what are the items that are worth re-inserting or, for the first time, in the everyday wardrobe?
You just have to scroll the gallery below and keep our tips in mind!
1. Cargo pants
Cargo pants, thanks to their versatility, have been a must in utility clothing. And these in black by Givency are the ideal.
2. Dip-dye effect
Inherited from the tie-dye effect of the 90s, the dip-eye effect was the protagonist of many men’s clothing, especially cotton t-shirts and sweatshirts like this one from Les Tien.
3. Leather jacket
It was impossible not to find a leather jacket in the men’s wardrobe in the early 2000s. The model was exactly like this one by Maison Margiela, with an automatic button closure, zip and… clearly slim.
4. Wide striped shirt
Exclusively oversized and a little unbuttoned, like this Etro model with large and colorful striped print and French collet.
5. Velvet blazer
Velvet was shown above all in jackets, combined with winter colors such as burgundy red, petrol green and brown among the most coveted. But pay attention to the model, which mustn’t be too slim with a “buttoned effect”, but comfortable, with shaped pockets like this one by AMI Paris.
6. Oversize t-shirt
The long-sleeved t-shirt in the 2000s was merely oversized. There were those who wore it in soft colors, those who preferred pastel colors and those like us who opted for a neutral model like this one by Comme Des Garcons with a round neckline.
7. Nike Air Max sneakers
In memory of all the Silver sneakers models sported in the decade, what do you think of the new Nike Air Max x Skepta? The silhouette is inspired by that of the Nike Air Max Plus TN and 97. Find out all the details here.
8. Levi’s 527 bootcut jeans
Jeans were worn only in the “bootcut” model from the 2000s: slim from the waist to the knee and wide to the ankle. The iconic ones are obviously the Levi’s 527.
9. Vans checkerboard
The most famous slip-on ever with a checkerboard pattern. The unisex model from Vans made history and was sported between 2007 and 2009.
10. Texans biker
Leather bikers were also a must. Also called “winklepicker” by Teddy Boys and gothic scene. And let’s face it, those of Saint Laurent are the coolest ever.
