Today we met Angela and Antonia, founders of the jewels bags brand. Mother and daughter united by a common passion: creating whimsical and wearable objects to add an original touch to even the most minimal looks.
Let’s get to know Halíte better!
Hi Angela and hello Antonia, thank you for accepting our invitation and for your availability! We are very intrigued by your brand of jewel bags! Tell us how Halíte was born, how your passion for this world was born and how you approached it
Hi Silvia, the pleasure is all ours!
The brand was born in 2018 without a project in truth, but just for fun. Antonia, I and my mother Angela have always enjoyed making chiffon shirts or silk trousers for ourselves, especially in summer. I was looking for a bag for an occasion and it seemed impossible to find one that I liked and that was suitable. So I asked my mother to make one with a scrap of black silk. That’s when the first Halíte bag was born.
Where does your brand name come from?
The house where I grew up and lived with my family is surrounded by basins of pink water, small mountains of salt and the sea, in Puglia, more precisely in Margherita di Savoia, where one of the largest marine salt pans in ‘Europe. Halíte is a Greekism, literally meaning “stone of salt”, and is used to refer to the crystallization of salt in nature. It is these precious-looking salt crystals that inspire our accessories and jewels.
What type of person is your brand aimed at?
Our bags are created to be worn by literally anyone, to satisfy a need, while remaining a quirk. There is a sort of active relationship between us and our customers: we propose an idea for a bag, we choose the colour, the application or the accessory and everything that will make the mini bag unique for that moment, for that occasion and for your own style.
What is the main aesthetic that guides your creations?
What has always guided the aesthetics of our creations is the attempt to contaminate our somewhat minimal style with a fun accessory. Essential but precious, simple but refined. We let ourselves be greatly inspired by trends and colours, maintaining the lightness of creating together from which we started.
What is the iconic Halíte item?
The most iconic item is certainly the Mini Sparkling model, a satin bag with crystal tassels. One of the first made and certainly one of the most loved by us too!
Do you follow a sustainable production process to make your products? Do you carry out other green activities?
I believe there is nothing more sustainable than “handmade to order” when it comes to the production process. There is no excess, there is a controlled, artisanal production, therefore much more careful and above all commensurate with the request. There is always a margin for improvement on the choice of raw material, a particularly complex aspect. Despite these precautions of ours, we are working and putting a lot of effort into it, choosing partners who are increasingly attentive to this issue.
What is the way for you to be sustainable and have a luxurious style at the same time?
It depends on what we mean by luxury. For us there is nothing more luxurious than a garment or piece made with quality material, made well, with care, that care you feel in your hands. If this meets an affordable price, we have the highest possible definition of luxury.
Can you tell us three adjectives that distinguish your brand?
Definitely: fun, essential and authentic.
Would you like to share with the readers of Wait!Fashion an anecdote that you remember with pleasure from your journey?
Yes, the moment we decided to take the plunge. We would have given up so much beauty and so many special encounters if we had not decided to embark on this experience that has given us so much.
What are your goals and future plans?
Among future projects there is certainly that of introducing new products and always improving our proposals in every respect!
What advice would you give to those who want to launch themselves into this vast and competitive world?
Small steps, especially if you don’t have much means to start.
