MYKITA, the famous Berlin-based eyewear brand, teams up with designer Martine Rose to launch a new model of sunglasses.
The frame is called KITT and is ready to conquer us thanks to nonconformist aesthetics, pop colors and subtle forms, which embody one of the biggest trend of the season for the sunglasses. This frame is particularly appealing because it does not want to be taken seriously. This is shown by the fake discount packaging, which immediately gives the tone of what we are facing. The model is bold and recalls the euphoric style of the Nineties dance scene, with an almost cat-eye, where the upper line is arrowheaded and the profile is super-flat. Bright colors such as Antique Red, New Lime, Royal Blue and Black contribute to give it an irreverent look and the ironic spirit of the packaging also continues through subtle inscriptions on the lenses.
There could be no greater harmony between the two brands. MYKITA has for years been renowned for offering glasses with never banal shapes and made with high quality materials. The intent is to create sophisticated models with a functional design, according to a philosophy that fits perfectly with the inclination of the London-based brand Martine Rose. For her creations, the designer is inspired by icons and motifs from the past, which she reimagines in the present, just as in the case of KITT. The contexts are subverted, the references collide and the result is what makes the product “offbeat“, yet “in tune”.
Where and when to find them
The exclusive frames can be purchased starting from April 20th in selected MYKITA stores, Dover Street Market and online on SSENSE. In May it will also be available online on mykita.com and in other stores. The only flaw? The price: around 575 dollars.
