On the occasion of the 21st annual Free Arts auction in New York, American graduate KAWS shows us a preview on his Instagram of his “custom” of the two black and white LDWaffle colorways part of the collaboration between Nike and Sacai.
The sneakers, in fact, will be auctioned as part of the annual non-profit fundraising Free Arts for the support and art education of young people in need.
Kaws adds to the original model its X symbol of the “Companion” in the part above the heel, and smileys on the midsole.
This isn’t the first time Laurea has supported Free Arts. In fact, last month, he donated a $ 250,000 piece “What Party”.
The social message is strong, too, at a time when New York will cut 70% of its art education budget for 2021, which is why so many artists are donating to their annual fundraiser this year.
The offers for each sneaker begin midday on October 16th and will be accessible through the Artsy webstore.
