Naif 1979. What does this name mean?
Contrary to what you may think about the name of the artistic movement, it’s actually an acronym for “New Advanced Italian Fashion” and the date signifies your sartorial experience in the manufacturing world of fashion.
When Naif was born, and with what idea?
Naif 1979 was officially founded in June 2011, but finds its earliest origins before. A story that has two generations. I became an orphan from a few years of what has been my great master of art and I found myself just 24 years (kid still addicted to the vices of entertainment that age) to suddenly having to take the responsibility of a business group by professionals until the time was led by a great “leader.” The stakes were high and was to win the respect and credibility of collaborators who boasted the highest level of professional experience and, in some cases, doubled my age. It was not easy for them to relate to the directives of a young boy, though enterprising, but that until then had carried out the simplest tasks. Then I thought that the winning formula was only one: novelty and generational revolution. So I decided to launch a new challenge to that which is the great experience of my group tailoring business until then used to produce only on behalf of big names, designer labels and brands. I had the intention of offering the public a product different from all of the highest craftsmanship and a quality/price ratio unbelievable, to have a strong production platform of our own. My intuition has found early success on the market, consolidating the trust of my co-workers strongly.
I know that Naif 1979 is extremely tied to NEW FABLE, a renowned Italian manufacturer of packaging of high standards. In that way, the made in Italy can make a difference even in the streetwear and processing of jersey?
The difference lies in the experience of generations handed down by a group of great value tailored composed solely of Italian workers and high technological level difference that today our company production on the market. Quality and service are our doctrines professional.
You come from Puglia, a beautiful land and with so much tradition of creativity and craftsmanship. What do you bring in from your land?
The tenacity, positivity and the tradition of good taste. Our production facility is located in a lovely town overlooking the sea beautifully. Imagine that we receive positive charge in the morning, bringing us at the corporate office while running radiant landscapes that mix between land and sea.
How born a collection of NAIF 1979, according to which inspirations?
The creation of our collection is a very complex art where nothing is left to chance. A collection of NAIF was born in perhaps the most strategic internal to our company and that is what graphic-style-modeling applications. Is directed primarily to 6 people, each in charge of a staff for their specialization, all under my coordination. Carmen, Esther, Sebastian, Louis, Omar, Valerio, Piero. And ‘I interfaced with them every day to achieve the best result. Let’s start first by a search for new materials and accessories, then move on to the style, the development of the perfect fit (in any shape) and make that head so unique, and had to make the wearer feel an emotion.
How can we define the brand?
An authentic Made in Italy where the quality of materials and fit of garments are the strengths indissoluble.
Is there a brand or a designer who, in some way, is a source of inspiration for your work?
Yes, there is, but I want more to emphasize that the inspiration also comes from our originality in evolving what is our favorite ingredient: the sweatshirt. We are really experts to oust what is its soul “sportswear” and, with treatments and special processing, we transform it into an original ingredient great for achieving a style that define street-fashion.
What could be the final consumer of Naif? I’ve seen the last Pitti and built an extremely sophisticated. A new way of working the sweatshirt. In what type of store you see properly inserted your product? Do you see yourself still in the shop street-wear evolved? Either create a more boutique?
We create what we suggest our passion and we let our product is perceived by the channel’s right for it. Last Pitti his vocation was clear: Boutique of high standards concept store and attentive.
I know that Naif 1979 it has developed a certain interest towards your brand abroad. Which countries have accepted your brand?
The foreign is always attentive to the Made in Italy products well made and NAIF 1979 could not pass unnoticed. We started to relate to the markets North-European, Japanese and Korean, but I will not hide that from 6 months we have repeated encounters with a major Chinese trade group interested in distributing our brand in their country. It would be a nice revenge for us and for our industry if you configurasse latter hypothesis.
It ‘s impossible to interview a young emerging brand and not mention the word “crisis”. What is your perception of the situation? How do you look to the future and, if you want, you can also give us your advice to move forward with confidence a little bit?
Is there anyone who has wanted to enter in silence to force the word crisis in Italian culture. I think we need, now more than ever, make our move as population without being fooled by a political-financial system in some ways “perverse”. The confidence of the Italians is in our true culture of skilled creators of unique products in the world. We must begin to love each other more! I feel strongly advise the latter thought.
You have just been at your first Pitti Immagine Uomo. What gave you this event and what you’ve taken home at the level of experience after contact with the public?
In particular I would like to sincerely thank the organization of Pitti Immagine. Impeccable organizing an international event so great! We finally gave what may be the greatest value for our work: the focus of an important audience. Now we feel really connected to Florence and I think without doubt we will confirm our presence in future editions.
Will participate in the future in some international fair?
Absolutely! Date now the maturity shown by the brand I think it is essential. We are already in the work to decide among the most important fairs in Europe. Among the most accredited at the time, we think of the PREMIUM Berlin or Paris TRA NOI.
