A breath of fresh air, a new vision of concreat and responsible fashion, where the word “freedom” is a passe partout. So it sums up the exciting project that Flavia La Rocca has been working for a few years. Style are modular and environment care are the know-how that, season after season, the Roman designer renews and evolves into details.
Interview with Flavia La Rocca:
It’s been a few years from your first collection. What was the most significant development of Flavia La Rocca?
I have always drawn outfit able to be worn in different ways, but the most significant development has been the design of the concept of modularity to which I immediately flanked by that of sustainability. From that moment I realize entire collections composed of modules that can be composed through hidden zippers worn together or individually, to create multiple combinations. Entirely made in Italy the modules are made with 100% natural fabrics, remanufactured such as the Prato’s Carded or recycled like polyester born from Newlife ™: a process entirely made in Italy, traceable and certified using a technological and unique model, able to convert plastic bottles in a wire highly performing from the point of view of aesthetics, functional and sustainable. Newlife ™ allows saving of 60% energy, 32% CO2 and 94% water. You can understand that I firmly believe in a sustainable fashion, especially now with the technologies and the new opportunities we have available you can not avoid making a product that limits waste, the environmental impact and is made in an ethical manner. My idea of sustainability then goes further, reaching even to understand the basic concept of the brand itself: the modularity, or the possibility to use the same garment in different ways or reinvent it season after season, it means that they are spared fabric, materials energy and raw employed for the realization of different garments.
Your concept is very original. How is it in production?
At the production level, as well as in the planning stage of the collection, I think deeply on the forms not on the finished garment. Even the same design is a process halfway between the creative and the technical/design. There are measurements and proportions to be respected, the limits of realization. Every season then on that basis are tested and developed new solutions, volumes and details.
How should the final consumer relate to your outfit?
I leave the customer the opportunity to reinterpret my clothes buying different modules and mixing them creating their own personal combinations (with five forms you can also match fourteen different looks). I believe in a woman who wants to play with clothing by choosing the most suitable combination fitting best her mood and situation, she decided how to mix what I propose every season: a woman always female. I believe in a contemporary fashion and democratic that it should stay in step with the times and the needs of a woman today who have less time and less space, but who want and/or need to give their best even in clothing. I propose pieces that lend themselves to the game of fashion.
What is the added value of your collection?
The possibility that each collection offers to create your own wardrobe: endlessly renewable, which takes up little space and that respects our planet.
How do you see the fashion market today? How Flavia La Rocca relates to it?
I see more and more competitive, globalized and fast sector. The offer is more varied, from luxury to mass market a product travels smoothly from one part of the world, a brand can be launched, reach the peak of popularity in a very short time and at the same rate disappear. Flavia La Rocca offers an identity that gives a nod to the trends of the season but who wants to be timeless. Do not want to be a phenomenon of the moment, he wants to be an alternative way of making contemporary fashion.
Future projects?
Continue working because the brand reach new goals and an even wider audience.
