Lifestyle. It seems easy to say that it is possible to create it independently of the fashion, trends, what is in the magazines. But the truth is that, just because of the varied offer that exists on the market, the hand and mind of someone who intends to suggest a way of life becomes useful. According to his o her taste, story. And it is the path that Carlo Zanuso has been pursuing since 2008, the year he launched his fashion brand Pomandère. The designer tells in this interview the company’s core values and projects for the future.
Carlo, with what goals was born Pomandère? Are they made at a distance of nine years?
Pomandère is born out of my passion and desire to be able to realize and translate into something the experience my parents have gained over the years, who are currently working on Pomandère’s entire production, having matured over thirty-eight years of experience in managing of the realization of shirts for third companies. We grew step by step, making choices at the right time without wanting to overdo it. The growth that we have achieved over the past nine years has come from the informal and daily identity that I wanted to belong to Pomandère.
In the family shirts job you learned the basic notions of the designer’s work, but also the business-related ones, more relevant to the financial aspect. How did the idea of creating a complete woman collection then develop?
The initial project was designed by creating a business plan with a three-year time span. I knew from now on to break the side of economic training from that of creative. A dowry, perhaps, that is to know how to drive the most emotional part with the concrete one. The start was to present the shirt, the hub of the men’s wardrobe, in an extremely feminine key in proportion and use. Shirts, which gradually became dressed. Hence the desire to complete the look with destructured shapes and cared in their tailoring aspect. I always think of timeless garments, easy to wear and be interpreted by the wearer.
You’ve launched a homewear line that includes linen, soaps and scents for the home environment, starting from the 2017 autumn-winter season, today in stores. What values do you want to convey with this novelty?
I would like to convey the warmth of the house. When we opened our showroom in Milan, in fact, we thought it a place to live and not a real office. Through the scent, the essences, we want to convey the emotions that come when you are in a family environment where you feel comfortable.
Where is the production of Pomandère collections?
The production is entirely Italian. The raw materials we choose are only selected from natural ones and this applies to both fabrics and fragrances. I care a lot to the Italian factor, I think it is an added value that should be cultivated and safeguarded more.
On the site it is written that you are the face of the brand but “everyone put their face in it”: what does this statement affirm?
Yes, I like the comparison and teamwork. I believe that teamwork can generate interesting stimuli without losing sight of the identity and goals to be achieved, which must be coordinated and precise.
What are the projects for the future?
Surely to grow the living project, it is the last born and for this, is still being developed. An idea that is shrinking in my mind would be to open a small room, to express the identity of Pomandère through this medium, or place, I think it is much more fascinating than the concept of a flagship store.
