Today we would like to introduce Alessandro Vigilante, designer and founder of his emerging brand. Alessandro is establishing himself in the fashion industry for his elegant and refined items, made with sustainable fabrics that give freedom, movement and eroticism to the body.
“Hi Alessandro, I would like to let Wait readers get to know you better. How would you introduce yourself?”
“I am a designer, passionate about my job with a dream of owning a brand which came true in September, when I presented my first women’s collection, named “ATTO I”, after 14 years of experience in the style office of well-known brands including Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini.”
“After a past in dancing, why did you decide to make fashion your new world?”
“I’ve always wanted to be a designer, I’ve been designing women’s dresses since I was five. Contemporary dance is a great passion, which became the primary inspiration for my work as a designer.”
“I know you studied at the IED in Milan. Is it true that your first dresses were chosen by a jury chaired by Franca Sozzani, to show during the Milano Fashion Week? Can you tell us about this experience?”
“I won My Own Show in 2007, during the last year of IED. The competition, created by Vogue Italia and IED, had Franca Sozzani as president of the jury, who chose me as the winner making a special mention about me. I remember that day as the best day of my life, the one where I felt most satisfied. “
“But let’s talk about your new project. How was the Alessandro Vigilante brand born? How much does the love you have for dance influence the aesthetics of the brand?”
“My brand, Alessandro Vigilante, was born from the need to communicate my aesthetic vision, thanks to the know-how acquired over the years. All my work revolves around the concept of eroticism, keeping the female body always at the center of the scene. My objective is to help women to feel safe, to be at ease, strong and aware of their body, discovering from time to time some parts of the body itself, highlighting the more female aspects rather than hiding them. My job is on the body and on the body in motion. In this sense I always call on help from contemporary dance, my first source of inspiration… today as a designer passionate about dance, in the past as a professional dancer. “
“Clothes are made to highlight the body, to envelop it, to embrace it and they are made to be experienced by the body itself.”
“What kind of women are you inspired by for your creations?”
“I am inspired by strong women, who are not afraid to show their femininity. I like women who take care of themselves also through body care, sport, dance, yoga and pilates. I like bodies sculpted by exercise, so I show backs, legs and other body parts from time to time with cut-out effects. “
“They are open windows on the body that tells its story.”
“Do you follow a sustainable production process for your garments?”
“All my garments are made in Italy, made in a company of qualified and passionate professionals, who work according to sustainable processes. I use some recycled fabrics such as second skin viscose jersey and vegan natural rubber.”
“Some of your clothes have been worn by well-known personalities. Is there a particular artist you would like to dress?”
“I would like to dress the actress Alice Pagani, Lousita Cash of Luos and the Yakuza among the currently emerging celebrities. However, among the established celebrities: Zoe Kravitz, Saoirse Ronan, Tilda Swinton, Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchet, Rooney Mara, Margot Robbie, Dua Lipa and Rosalia. And, among the male stars the singers Mahmood and Harry Styles.”
“What are your plans for the future? How do you imagine the post-Covid period?”
“I am working on two capsules that will enrich my first “ATTO I” collection with many new items. I’m imagining the post-Covid phase as“illuminated”. There will be a desire for the new, the beautiful and top-quality!”
“Where we will be able to buy your clothes?”
“The collection will be selling in the showroom from January!”
