Painters, writers, filmmakers. Many creative people have made their dreams a cultural product. Hieronymus Bosch with the “Garden of Earthly Delights”, Johann Heinrich Füssli – also called “the poet of the devil” -, René Magritte and then, inevitable, Salvador Dalì. Jack Kerouac wrote “The Book of Dreams,” his dreams, and in 1990 Akira Kurosawa came out with the “Dreams” movie. How not to mention “Inception” with Leonardo Di Caprio directed by Christopher Nolan. Even fashion is no exception. And today, in the independent sphere of industry, the main exponents of this style are Giacomo Nee and Barbara Branciforti, from Milan and founders of Bucobianco, that we met at White during the September Milan Fashion Week.
Barbara Giacomo, you have called the spring – summer collection 2017 Bucobiancodreams. You are always started in somehow from the dream, from the res intangible, but this time is the real star. Would you tell us how?
For the first time, since the birth of Bucobianco, people’s dreams are the protagonists of a collection. This is because we see in the dream the caretaker of a story that, through a process of identification, takes both form and color.
Pascoli wrote that “the dream is the infinite shadow of Truth.” In fact you juxtaposed the unconscious into a reality, yours, made of clothes. What’s your position towards reality, the truth?
In the dream, the truth did not want to leave plenty of space to its opposite. Our goal is creation: it lives within its own rules, its own systems, or what we call code. Creation is a “divine” act that every conscious form can practice in turn. A lot of our creation is lost in memory trash, but some things remain, especially if we choose to make them stay.
Observing the collection, than previous, you may notice an increased focus in the materials that have become more valuable. Is this the path you want to take: to assemble a lot of creativity to quality raw materials?
The material is like a story, may have different qualities, it may be consistent or not with the story. For us, the best stories are those that move the poles always a step ahead.
You certainly can say that in your creations there is some art influence. Who are the artists who make more reference for your inspiration?
In the art history were countless worlds creators. In the painting in particular, one of the best known is certainly Hieronymus Bosch.
You describe this collection as “free”. What do you mean?
Everything that meets our code is an instance, something that is “above”; a situation that lives in our world, free from the other, the common one.
What is for you, freedom and, paradoxically, it still make sense to talk about it today?
Talk and then seek freedom makes sense today as in the past. What is certain is that today, outside Bucobianco, the needs and virtual dependencies are still rising.
What are your future plans?
We intend to study the rules and the life of the world we have created.
