By definition, a photographic exhibition shows the final result of a performance that is preceded by a study, a thought, often a meditation … a final processing and a print … all parts of a path that has always been distant, secret and well hidden from the eye of the observer who is precluded from all ‘before’ and who sees only ‘after’. Everything that happens before the visitor observes the final work can only be imagined. And sometimes not even the most fervid of imaginations can grasp what happened ‘behind the scenes’.
A ‘status quo’ that is completely overturned by this event called ‘In Medias Res’, (in the middle of things), which turns into a live performance, showing the artist at work ‘in the laboratory’ before and during the creative act.
On July 23 starting at 6 pm, the exhibition will come to life from scratch and viewers will be able to enjoy a unique live performance that will tell the whole creative path of Francesco Bertola who, inside the Atelier Studio Tommasi in Pietrasanta, will find himself together to the spectator ‘in the middle of history’ surrounded by models who will pose adorned with draperies made by the stylist Jeaninne Intriago.
The Latin phrase in medias res refers to the narrative art that initiates the story of events “in the middle of things”. Beginning in medias res means discovering yourself immediately enveloped in the heart of history: so does the photographer, who places himself in the center of life and acts from there, in the middle, capturing the accents of the frenetic reality that unfolds before his eyes.
In medias res is the last multisensory exhibition organized by ETRA Studio Tommasi in the Leone Tommasi Atelier in Pietrasanta, where multiple artistic forms will dialogue and blend with each other and with the space, shaping an exhibition that will come to the world on the day of its opening. . In fact, the artist Francesco Bertola will take the photographs that will make up the exhibition during a live performance, in which models adorned with the drapery of the designer Jeaninne Intriago will pose.
