On the occasion of the world day for mental health, Marc Jacobs launched the Heaven collection, in honor of young people and the film “The garden of the suicidal virgins” of the muse of Jacobs, Sofia Coppola.
The choice of Heaven’s release date is not accidental; in fact, the collection develops in a bizarre and eccentric atmosphere that would suggest a state of madness, experienced by the protagonists of Sofia Coppola’s film.
The brand also showed great openness towards the LGBTQIA + community by allocating part of the proceeds of the collection ($ 18 for each The Virgin Suicide t-shirt) to the organization.
Heaven’s style refers to the youthful aesthetic of the late 90s and early 2000s. We therefore have short tops and long skirts with prints, low-waisted cargo pants, printed tights with pleated miniskirts, fishnet stockings, denim suits and oversized sweatshirts.
The collection revolves around the word Heaven and images from the film depicting a young Kristen Dunst lying on a baseball field then printed on sweatshirts, bags and skirts. The looks clearly reflect the American college style, taken to excess.
The references do not only concern the Coppola film, but also symbols that fall within the iconography of the 90s, in fact we find demin jackets or skirts with an all-over print of ET (Spielberg) or the most popular Cartoons.
