Who of you when you were little sang: “Doraemon! Doraemon! What a space cat, only you can give us special gudgets …” the theme song of the cartoon broadcast on Italia Uno which featured the robot cat sent from the 22nd century to help of a little boy named Nobita Nobi. But what made it special was above all the mythical four-dimensional pocket containing all kinds of secret objects thanks to which he was able to face the fun adventures that involved him. Yes, we are talking about that funny blue cat that is celebrating its 50th anniversary today.
For the occasion, Gucci has decided to pay homage to him with a new collaboration. The well-known and astute designer Alessandro Michele (increasingly accustomed to the world of anime) has, in fact, seen fit to launch a capsule collection to celebrate the manga character and at the same time the Chinese New Year arriving on February 12th. The campaign shot by photographer Angelo Pennetta reveals part of the collection with models flanked by Doraemon in the guise of a sometimes imaginary friend.
But let’s take a closer look at the capsule collection! The line consists of a series of clothing suitable for both men and women. The iconic face of the character appears next to the classic GG monogram. White, red and blue are the predominant colors, all associated with cardboard.
Of course, accessories cannot be missing. Going from bags of all types and sizes to wallets, scarves, iPhone covers, watches, and much more. For shoes, on the other hand, I focus on women’s Princetown Splippers and Rhyton and Ace sneakers (for both men and women).
Added to this is sustainable packaging that includes fully recyclable green bags and coordinated tags. The result is a collection that enhances and reflects heritage by turning an eye to the future. As for the price … needless to say they are high, but nothing else could be expected from a brand like Gucci. Don’t be surprised by a € 450 T-shirt, a € 1,350 watch or a € 1,690 shopping bag. Despite this, Gucci must be able to recognize the merit of surprising and amaze anyone with its extravagant and ingenious style proposals.
