“What can not be said and what can not be silenced, music expresses it”. This phrase by Victor Hugo in some way expresses the deep, dichotomous and passionate relationship between Amy Winehouse and music, the art that has made her known and appreciated to the public all over the world. And to Fred Perry, who has chosen her as ambassador since 2010 (in Italy since 2015) and to create a collection of brand’s iconic clothing pieces on her style.
For the spring-summer 2017 capsule collection, made with the collaboration of the Amy Winehouse Foundation, the British fashion house has returned to the origins of the relationship with the singer, who disappeared on July 23, 2011, and her look, especially the fifties aesthetic years and the pin-up silhouette, so much appreciated by the artist.
White polka dot and red hearts, inspired by the singer’s tattoos, are the prints of the season. Additionally, the one created ad hoc for this occasion, or the motif depicting a rose, made as a tribute by Pegasus, an English artist and graffiti maker, who started collaborating with the foundation, born to help children with alcohol and drugs addiction problems, after his Fallen Angel design drawn in Camden (London suburb) depicting Amy with wings, was used by fans as a “sacred” place to remind the Back to Black singer. This figure is visible on bomber and pique shirt. Fabrics such as cotton and silk complete a collection that wants to express the sense of Amy Winehouse for fashion.
We can imagine her: she’s behind the scenes, doing her make up, the eyeliner slides on her eyelids, she dresses, wears a polo shirt, takes a microphone in her hand. The stage waits for her, she climbs, the heart beats for everyone at the same time, fast. The lights in the room go off, there is only her. No, just her voice.
