A man with a gipsy style is strolling relaxed in a chaotic metropolis. This is, at first glance, the photograph to see the first men’s collection for next summer by Paloma Barceló: BARCELÓ HOMME. The well-known Spanish brand, with a long tradition of made in Spain, has always attracted many women with its complex constructed but always elegant shoes, and has now decided to carry on his journey also the male universe with a colorful and urban-chic collection.
Here is the exclusive interview with Manuel Barceló Martinez founder of Paloma Barcelo:
Manuel, your brand, Paloma Barceló, has a long tradition of women’s shoes made by hand. When and why did you decide to launch your first men’s line?
I decided to launch a men’s collection because it is a new market, where there are not many brands that have some interesting proposals. If the women’s footwear world is inflated, the male is, on the contrary, still to be conquered.
Are you noting significant differences producing two lines?
Not really. Even for the men’s collection, in fact, I take inspiration from a creative world and on what attracts me during my travels. There are therefore of particular inspirations, everything happens as if by magic. For this first collection, I thought of the men who walk the streets of cities like New York, Paris or London: men with a easy look but always chic.
Who is the man who best represents Barcelò Homme’s universe?
He is a relaxed man, who loves life, sport and is always on the move. I could call him a radical chic that follows fashion but without showing off his look. He is cosmopolitan, not a fashion victim.
How do you select the materials to produce your shoes?
We have first choice suppliers. Divided between Italy and France and we use their materials for both the women’s collection for the male. I love to personally choose the most sophisticated leathers. This, and other important details, is what makes the difference with each collection.
What do you expect from this line?
I expect my clients to identify with the world of which I mentioned you before: a man running to a business appointment after practicing sport or a social activity. A man who knows how to enjoy life.
Future projects?
At the moment there is the global positioning of the Barcelò Homme’s line. The sales team is promoting the collection to cool and selcted customers in order to set up a strategic distribution. The goal is to see this line in the best shops in the world.
