How can you combine two different aesthetic ideas? For many, it is absurd and they do not even try, for others, the game is stimulating, but the risk is to go into ridicule or, in any case, or not know how to measure properly different stylistic components. The latter category belongs to DRYCLEANONLY, a fashion brand born in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2010, which has taken on the challenge by combining the opulent world of the 80s with the most androgynous and grunge of the 1990s. The result is Let it Dry , the collection designed for next summer.
Patipat Chaipukdee, aka Best, the brand’s founder, has been researching both in the history of fashion for the two decades and in that of its vintage archive, especially scarves and trinkets that could fit more into those two worlds. Various materials such as chiffon, lace and gold plated prints have been brought to their lines and their construction. But this is one of the many aspects. They are in fact copious t-shirts, key figures of heroin chic years, with prints typical of the eighties, a time very popular with television series such as Stranger Thing or the revival of Twin Peaks, fluid beje high-waist pants i which alternate with Schiaparelli pink fuseax. Unmissable are the minidress and the shirts, in pure nineties, wide, but cool. To urge this dichotomy is also how Best prepares to create every new collection of his brand: he shapes fabrics and vintage clothing and handmade it in a metissage where it also includes new fabrics and a contemporary silhouette, in order to pack each proposed as if it were a single garment.
The dresses presented are perhaps a bit too rich, opulent. Nevertheless, DRYCLEANONLY has always been in mind to propose a fashion idea that goes beyond current canons. There is therefore a consistency that, however, strides sufficiently when combining the leggings with a back neckline knotted by a bow. To be reviewed.
