The new Clubhouse app is doing big numbers. Just to name a few, it now has 2 million members, compared to a few months ago when there were just 1500 visitors.
It works according to an exclusivity criterion: you will be invited to join the app by those who have been already invited in turn. This ensures that the mechanism of “friends of friends”, which however prevents everyone from taking a ride on the application.
Another factor that makes it exclusive is the possibility of downloading Clubhouse only on Apple devices: the rest of the users who travel with Android, which far exceed the users of the apple, have to wait for now.
Among the skeptics and the convinced, one thing is certain: investors are in the second category. The numbers, in terms of investments, that revolve around this application are very high. Although Paul Davison’s company ‘Alpha Exploration’ only started in February 2020, three months later it already boasted an investment of $12 billion, which sent the app’s valuation skyrocketing to $100 billion. The venture capital fund Andreessen Horowitz also believed it, one of the first to believe in the most influential social platforms ever: Twitter, Facebook, Groupon, Coinbase and Airbnb.
The “by invitation” criterion was also used by Gmail, the most popular e-mail in the world.
But why is this policy adopted?
First of all, it serves primarily to raise the hype and attract attention to the product: in fact, the policy is often implemented in the launch period, in which it is very important to keep expectations and desire high.
It is also not obvious that by receiving access ‘by invitation only’, the mechanism makes it buy more value, importance, and certainly attention in trying and testing it, unlike any application that is already freely available on the web.
The invitation-only mechanism also allows developers and the team behind a project to progressively “test” the machine, so as to analyze its operation and allow increasing improvements for users who will arrive at a later time.
With the funds invested, it is clear that the application aims to reach the largest possible audience.
And even if there is no official date yet, it is known that the application is still under development, and one of the next goals to be achieved is certainly the availability of the app also on Android devices. The success is already incredible, but a surge in users is expected for the future!
