What object will we never get tired of?
That object that will not end up being forgotten in some shelf full of dust or thrown in a basket? Maybe none. Nothing we buy will have the privilege of staying with us forever. It is useless to pretend otherwise: whether your favorite sport is compulsive shopping or not, the process is always the same.
You see an item of clothing or an accessory, if we like it we buy it, if it is lucky it will be used even more than once, but then it will be sucked into a secret corner of our closet. We know that like washing machines, wardrobes also have the power to make clothes disappear!
Have you ever wondered why all this rush to get rid of old clothes to buy new ones? Some of you will tell me that the fashion system is focusing on this attitude, but I don’t agree with it.
Today more and more brands show inside and outside the catwalks theirs sustainable face and contrary to fast fashion policies. Quality is what really makes the difference today. So the reason for our desire to never be satisfied with anything and to always have to change everything is perhaps independent of the world of fashion. A society of unacceptable people who aim to always get the best, when we don’t realize that sometimes the best is in our hands, or in our closets depending on the point of view.
That’s why an article that talks about multipurpose clothes. I thought about what could be a way to solve our need to always look for different stimuli, new things that are destined to replace the old ones. My answer is to be able to find a new life for a multipurpose item of clothing to wear in different and unexpected ways.
3 Foulard – Top ideas
The star of different and original looks is a foulard. A simple piece of fabric, perhaps the least used accessory ever precisely because, apart from knotted around the neck, you never have the faintest idea how to use it. One of the first ways to give a scarf a new use is to tie the two ends of the scarf inside a necklace and then tie them behind our back. Here, a new top will be added immediately in our wardrobe without bothering to go to the store to buy it.
The second way to turn a simple scarf into a multipurpose dress is to tie it with a bow in front recreating the effect of a strapless top perfect for showing off the last residue of our summer tan.
If instead the scarf is always folded in two and tied behind the back, the effect of our top will be different from the previous one, thus obtaining three different tops from one garment.
Foulard – Bandana
The fourth way to take advantage of our foulard, as well as different tops, is to use it as a bandana. A perfect touch of style to stand out and hide an unsuccessful fold of hair.
And if even a brand like Dior accepts the challenge of multipurpose clothes perhaps, the time has really come to learn how to value what we have by looking at it every day in different ways.
