The collection that Exkite has designed in collaboration with Christopher Ræburn was presented in London during the June fashion week. The Italian brand, which boasts a full-fledged production, founded by Renzo Mancini, ex-pro kite, and Eirinn Skrede, the creative soul of the brand, has chosen the talented fashion designer for the look of next summer.
The visions of these two realities in the field of high fashion sportswear are complementary: the focus is both for the practicality of the garments – including bomber and parka – on the peculiarities of the fabrics – Exkite was born with a collection entirely made of fiber from recycled kites – and on contemporary design. For his part, the enfant prodige Ræburn has a clear concept of the apparel world – protecting men and the planet, and this makes him an original and exceptional designer – so declared fashion journalist Suzy Menkes. The reason why the author of this sentence writes it is that the designer also reuses wool, cotton and other materials to make the majority of the garments in his collections, such as silk, for example, derived from the escape maps of 50’s of the Royal Air Force, with which the creator made a dress of his own brand’s creations.
The Sardinian brand, which inaugurated its course in 2006, thus delegates to Christopher Ræburn, winner of the 2011 prize as the best emerging talent in menswear fashion at the British Fashion Award, its story stemming from a strong passion for sport and culminating in clothing both for man and for women with a strong intrinsic value. – We have created fashion with a soul. After many years in the business, I am proud to be part of this company that brought life to these kites once again. These garments has traces of someone´s story and soul. They have lived a life facing wild oceans and strong winds. They have soaked up memories and breathless moments, now they are redesigned to fly again with someone special -, states Skrede. For a fashion that is not just an object, matter.
