The New York Fashion Week (NYFW) has just ended. From the flowers of Carolina Herrera, to the pomposity of Marc Jacobs passing through the sparkling ’70s of Michael Kors, we have gathered for you the best New York fashion shows for the Fall/Winter season 2019.
3.1 Phillip Lim
In this season, Philip Lim aimed to create a “capsule-wardrobe” rather than a theme collection. After the show, he declared that he was inspired by a de-rating that he was forced to suffer in the past, as well as by the work of the ecologist Yvon Chouinard (which is why the collection was free of leather and fur). The colors were faded and basic, black, gray, white and brown, with a few touches of animal prints.
Carolina Herrera
Also this time Carolina Herrera did not disappoint. The bold graphics with flowers inspired by the work of Robert Maplethorpe are presented on hyperfeminine skirts, ruffles and ruffled dresses. It was only the second collection of the new creative director Wes Gordon, who adhered to the brand’s DNA, but at the same time brought it in a more modern direction with flowing shapes and shorter hems.
Michael Kors
Michael Kors has aroused much nostalgia with a collection inspired by Studio 54, worn by the supermodels of the moment and surrounded by a live performance of “Copacabana” by Barry Manilow. The American designer, among feathers, sequins, plateau and voluminous curls has declared that, with this collection, wanted to pay homage to the sparkling New York of the 70s.
Oscar de la Renta
This time there was decidedly less princess dresses than what we usually see on the Oscar de la Renta runways. Between crop top and even a cashmere suit, this collection has been a modern reinterpretation of the sophisticated elegance that has made the maison famous. Relaxed tailoring and comfortable footwear have been combined with more elegant pieces like an old velvet prom dress worn by top model Bella Hadid, thus presenting a perfect mix between past and present.
Proenza Schouler
After a year in Paris, Proenza Schouler returned to parade during New York Fashion Week with a collection that any career woman would dream of wearing. For this collection, in fact, the brand offers a purely androgynous style consisting of deconstructed knitwear and long layered tops in layered silk with flared sartorial trousers or long pleated skirts.
Zimmermann
This latest Zimmermann collection was inspired by Nancy Wake, a French resistance fighter of Australian origin. Everything is represented in the form of leather caps, trench coats, bomber jackets and metal boots, which were juxtaposed with floral and fluctuating dresses, typical of the brand.
Prabal Gurung
Colors, overlays and a fun dose of prints in the AW19 collection by Prabal Gurung, which never fails to present a smattering of modern evening dresses. Everything is mainly inspired by the hippie movement of the ’70s of Kathmandu (from which the designer comes), mixed with a touch of modernity typical of the city of NYC.
Brandon Maxwell
The brand favored by the red carpet stars, Brandon Maxwell did not disappoint the expectations for the AW19, presenting on the catwalk, colorful and voluminous bow-shaped dresses, tightly belted by much more structured belts than those of the previous collections. While the most pompous dresses will surely be contended for the red carpet, the frayed, silky and high-necked ones, will surely be the best sellers.
Tom Ford
Tom Ford kicked off the fall/winter 2019 season in New York by sending a slew of top models on the catwalk with elegant tailored suits and long, chic dresses. In its entirety, the collection was simple in cuts but sumptuous and glamorous with red velvet jackets, colored silk fragments and daring fur hats.
Marc Jacobs
As usual, Marc Jacobs closed New York’s fashion week on Wednesday evening and he did in a so in dramatic style with a slew of dizzying clothing that we will certainly see at the next red carpet. Fairytale feathers and eccentric shapes for evening dresses while the pastel colors and amazing cloaks peeked out in the casual section.
