It was a year ago when Adidas and Allbirds announced their partnership to create a sports shoe with the lowest carbon footprint ever produced. After a year here we are, and we can say that the promise made has been kept.
Recall that the main objective of the two companies was to accelerate the development of solutions to reduce the 700 million tons of carbon dioxide emitted every year by the footwear industries. So it was.
On the one hand Adidas, with its great experience in the construction of footwear, on the other Allbirds, a company known for the use of sustainable materials. Two ‘rival’ companies that work together for good, an almost perfect combination to complete the long-awaited project: a pair of running shoes that are more sustainable than ever.
The footwear, called Futurecraft Footprint, has a carbon footprint, a polluting footprint, of less than 3 kilograms of CO2 per pair. All this was achieved thanks to the use of a sugar cane-based foam for the sole, together with a recycled polyester and Tencel (a material made from wool) for the upper part.
This is Futurecraft Footprint: shoe with a minimal design but which hides dedication, attention, desire for change. The model will be available exclusively to Adidas Creators Club members via a 100-pair lottery in May, another 10,000 pairs will be released in Fall/Winter 2021 and a larger version will follow in Spring/Summer 2022
This very important collaboration is proof that wanting is power. It is even better to have two competitors in the fashion sector who decide to share ideas, resources, with the hope of encouraging other brands to follow them. This is what makes this partnership an important example for the fashion world. An invitation to always launch new challenges, set new goals to complete, always go a little further.
