We finally attended the Comme des Garçons Home Plus fashion show for spring / summer 2022.
Among floral prints, bright colors, hats and irreverent wigs worn by the models, a pair of sneakers stand out. It is a model created in collaboration with Nike that we see worn on the catwalk now with high socks and contrasting colors, now without. The shoe, which dates back to 1999, is the Air Sunder Max.
The Comme des Garçons brand and, in particular Rei Kawakubo, rewrite the history of this shoe with Nike. Together they decide to keep its zippered design, an essential feature of this model, but remove some original details. They say goodbye to some elements present on the upper to emphasize the essentiality and contrast of the materials used. In fact, it seems that the shoe is composed of a leather part and a shiny one present just below the zip detail. The new sneakers were presented in white, black and black and white. The Nike logo is present on the side of the shoe in black, the word Comme des Garçons instead as soon as the zipper begins.
The collaboration between the two brands for the Air Sunder Max is certainly one of the most captivating things in the Comme des Garçons Homme Plus 2022 collection. While the models parade on the catwalk, all eyes are on this new sneaker that draws its idea from the past but with a breath of modernity.
