Hyppie soul in hipster body. Pangaia, the eco-sustainable brand and its line of “floral” duvets FLWRDWN
The lovers of colors and “cozy look”, but especially of nature, will definitely have a 100% green garment of Pangaia in the closet, or at least they will have heard about the brand.
Scopriamolo più da vicino! Il nome Pangaia nasce dall’unione di pan-all inclusive e gaia-madre terra.
Let’s find out more closely! The name Pangaia comes from the union of pan-all inclusive and gaia-mother earth.
“We are a global collective made up of a heart and many hands – scientists, technologists, designers – who create essential products based on innovative technologies and bio-engineered materials.”
One of the themes that is involving the fashion world is sustainability. The general consumer is increasingly oriented to a green economy and for some sustainability has become almost a basic requirement in a garment.
The existing brands, for a long time, are working to improve the environmental impact of their production chain: from the raw material to the distribution of the final product. Many emerging brands instead, base the whole philosophy of the company on this concept. Result: the competition is really ruthless!
What distinguishes Pangaia from other sustainable brands is that its mission is not simply to create exclusive products with green materials but to create a research platform, in collaboration with scientists and innovators from all over the world and put within the reach of all results.
The US brand collaborates with research institutes, laboratories and scientists around the world to solve problems in materials science and present these innovations within products.
In fact, there are many 100% green technologies used in the production of articles. Sweatshirts, suits and t-shirts made of seaweed fibers, vegetable skins made with simple grape peel, botanical dyes obtained from food waste and natural resources, recycled materials after consumption.
One of the supported research laboratories is located in Italy and it is here that FLWRDWN was invented. It is an innovation, the result of ten years of research inside a duvet. Duvet, actually, would not be the exact term, in fact the latter is not filled with feathers but rather flowers! More precisely, a mix of wild flower petals and a biopolymer, mixed with an aerogel.
Wild flowers are grown in specially created areas to encourage the recovery of biodiversity and to preserve local butterflies, the expanses of fields do not require irrigation and absorb even 12 tons of CO2 per hectare. The exterior of the jacket is made of recycled nylon and polyester, creating a super light garment, biodegradable and 100% green.
The design is oversized and unisex, colorful, suitable for men, women and children, so minimal to be almost conceptual. The packaging is also true to the company’s philosophy: made of organic fibre and alternative plastic that disappears in just twenty-four weeks.
The collection, which can be purchased online, is completed with equally warm and soft accessories. Prices range from 100,00 € for smaller accessories up to 850,00 € of the most elaborate down jacket.
Pangaia acts 100% ethically for the success of its mission. It is committed to the production of sustainable clothing, in favor of the community. At the base of each of its launches there is a precise reason: fundraising, such as the one in favor of the Doctors Without Borders, the protection of bees with its capsule collection designed by Takashi Murakami, until the donation continues to 5 Gyres: non-profit organization that deals with plastic disposal.
