We had a chat with Angelica Oprandi, one of the two founders of a Made in Italy knitwear brand, Mirella De Mori.
“Hello Angelica, thank you for accepting our invitation. Can you tell us a little about yourself and the Mirella De Mori brand?”
“Hi Benedetta, thanks to you for the invitation, it’s a pleasure! My sister, Sabrina, and I founded Mirella De Mori in 2018. Mirella De Mori is a total-look knitwear brand, mainly in cashmere and natural yarns. Our family has had a knitwear factory for about sixty years managed first by my grandmother, Giuseppina De Mori and now by my mother, Mirella, hence the name of the brand.”
“What are the main features and strengths of your products?”
“The production takes place entirely within our knitwear factory in the province of Bergamo; Made in Italy, experience and attention to detail is what certainly distinguishes our product. To this is added a study of an innovative design of volumes. , colors and textures. “
“What is the brand’s iconic garment?”
“More than a real iconic garment, we have timeless and bestselling looks that we propose every year with some variations. For example the pleated skirt in merino wool, or the cashmere jumpsuit made up of trousers and hooded sweatshirt or alternatively the version of the shirt with double sleeves at the waist.”
“The Mirella De Mori brand is carried out by you and your sister, how do you manage your work?”
“Sabrina is an architect, while I studied fashion business. We have two opposite characters but for this we complement each other enough. Most of the work we do in a team, however basically she takes care of the image part, while I of the commercial one.”
“What are your future projects? How will you face the uncertainty of the coming months?”
“From March to today the world has really changed. We are definitely focusing on online, at the moment we are working on the project to create a new digital showroom, being that right now not all customers are willing to come to our show- room in Milan to buy the collection or they can’t because of Covid restrictions. Despite everything I think that in today’s world of work it is not possible to stall or make half-time choices waiting for a change, you need to be flexible and make decisions with positivity and courage.”
“If you could choose a brand to collaborate with, which one would you choose?”
“If I were to think about a collaboration for MDeM I’d like to do it with a sportswear brand.”
“What would you recommend to a young entrepreneur taking his first steps in the world of fashion?”
“Being a young entrepreneur myself, I gladly accept advice! However I suggest you start, because if you believe in something you have to do it, without waiting for everything to be perfect. I think that for those who are good, ambitious and put love and passion into what they do there is always a way to do what he believes in.”
