The pearl season has sprung
With the spring season fully in place, we have seen more men indulge in the taste and elegance of sparkling necklaces day after day. They have been matched, modified, and colored in a wide range of different types but the pearl has always been a valuable piece for years.
Representing a symbol of refinement, the pearl necklace had always been identified with Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel, who in the 1920s used it during the launch of her Chanel brand. She constantly wore multiple layers of necklaces, which became part of her daily image and style. “A women needs ropes and ropes of pearls” quoted by the iconic woman herself. Pearls have become a prominent piece for women and have been seen over the years on the Chanel catwalk collections presented up to Karl Lagerfeld.
Turning to today, luxury fashion houses and celebrities begin to gradually embrace pearls in men’s clothing. Harlem-born rapper A$AP Rocky has been seen on the red carpet multiple times wearing this type of necklace. A$AP Rocky has become increasingly influential from year to year through its fashionable looks that bring new trends, break taboos and embrace the accessory as a lifestyle. Slowly, more and more male figures have started to wear pearls, such as Pharrell, Micky Munday, Harry Styles, Usher, Joe Jonas and many others.
Pharrell has certainly had a strong love for pearl necklaces also brought by his passion for Chanel and was seen already in 2016 at the French brand fashion show with a completely themed outfit. As one of the brand ambassadors, Pharrell has embraced this style and this challenge inside and outside the catwalk: turning pearls into a casual and everyday accessory for all men. Pharrell mixes the streetwear mood with these necklaces bringing a stylistic message of another level and enormously affecting the evolution of masculinity.
Fashion brands such as Dior, Casablanca, Alexander McQueen and Ryan Roche have brought many pearl accessories to their men’s collections. The gem has now become usual and casual on the catwalks but also on the streets. From luxury to the streets of our cities, without any specific gender target, pearl pearl necklaces are now a truly accessory for everyone.
