At the beginning of the eighties the Milan area is literally invaded by a new fashion, a new way of dressing and living the street, perhaps one of the few trends that can be defined as 100% Made in Italy, the “Paninaro” style
Fashion during these splendid years is very much influenced by political trends, and by the principles of freedom and revolution, and it is precisely in this period that in Milano da Bere (litteraly Milan to Drink) this new “style” expands, dictated by the desire to belong to a specific group , where the young teenagers or slightly older, who gathered at the local Piazza San Babila area, codified their own vocabulary and their own style based on the almost frenetic ostentation of the designer and expensive item.
Legends tell that the term “Paninaro” derives from a bar in Milan, the Bar Al Panino, the usual meeting place for the first group of PANINARI.
If the “Paninaro” is a term most used to identify the male sex, during the same years, the “Paninara”, is called the “SQUINZIA“, which, according to the dictionaries is definable as a smirking girl, not very intelligent, flirtatious, often in fashion, and influenced by television stereotypes of that period.
The classic “Paninaro” was the “son of dad”, a completely “branded” dress from head to toe, with designer signatures and brand logos in evidence on any garment being worn.
The outfit of the most classic Paninari, which was respected in the suburban squares and in the downtown streets, was almost taken for granted:
Possibly Moncler bomber, Best Company sweatshirt, Armani Jeans, El Charro belt and Timberland boots, Invicta or Naj-Oleari briefcase or backpack, at the discretion of sex or tastes.
Over the years fashions have changed, and the streets of Milan have been invaded by new multicultural generations that have inevitably changed the way of dressing and being of the “Paninaro“, which today has changed dramatically in appearance (only externally).
Let’s imagine the Paninaro 2.0, a mix between Chiara Ferragni and Federico Barengo:
Bomber Nuptse The North Face, (if you have the collab you are a KING), Box Logo Supreme sweatshirt, Calvin Klein Jeans, Off-White belt, Sneakers Chunky or Nike x Sacai, and you go out to command !!
In conclusion, cultural currents and fashions can change, can pass to the years and the soundtracks, which accompany our days, but the “Paninaro” that we have inside, that will never change !!!!
If you too feel like a “Paninaro Fashion” tell us your favorite outfit.
