The Off-White™ designer and creative director, Virgil Abloh, is launching a new partnership with NikeLab also in its home state, more precisely in the city of Chicago.
Entitled “Re-creation Center”, the newly designed space is described by Nike as a “cultural center” and it will host practical workshops and mentorship programs aimed at young Abloh fans who will have the opportunity to learn the foundations of more disciplines within the fashion system.
In fact, the topics ranging from brand identity, fabric design, graphic design, photography and more will all be discussed in depth.
The 8-week program is set up to offer exclusive drops, “recovery programs” and discussions in collaboration with partners chosen directly by Abloh, ranging from figures such as graphic designers to photographers. Currently the confirmed mentors are: Chuck Anderson (Graphic Design), Paul Octavious (Photography), Alyx Harch (Fabric Design), Thomas Kelley and Carrie Norman (Brand Identity), Ann Lui and Craig Reschke (Architecture).
Thanks to this mentoring program, each participant will have the opportunity to improve the skills of their respective practices and engage in complementary areas of expertise. At the end of this educational journey there will be a final project presentation.
The engaging Re-creation Center space will finally highlight the Nike “Reuse-a-Shoe” initiative. This program transforms the consumed sneakers into Nike Grind, the Nike project that involves the recycling of old fabrics to reuse them both in clothing and in basketball courts. In particular through this initiative, a community basketball court designed by Abloh will be built in Chicago ahead of the Nike Grind’s NBA All-Star 2020.
With the aim, therefore, of reinforcing the role that creative output has in shaping the future and of forming a new generation of talent, the Re-creation Center supported by Virgil Abloh and NikeLab will be open until 28 July.
