If in a more or less distant future we could really colonize the moon, for the occasion we would already have the perfect outfit: the body and the half-moon printed boots proposed by the French designer Marine Serre. The homonymous brand, in fact, is the perfect blend of fantasy, athleticism and futurism that the new frontier will soon require.
But back to Earth and a microcosm called the fashion industry, which is so fascinated by Marine Serre that only three seasons of work, and two fashion shows, have generated discussions, admiration and curiosity far beyond the pages of the magazines and posts of Instagram.
Marine Serre’s clothing is an act of sensual and efficient balance worthy of a ray of balance. An elastic sports bra fits perfectly with a empire-waist silk balloon skirt. A pair of tight-fitting, flesh-colored boots with a half-moon print appear beneath an abaya waving with scarves. The synthetic fabrics of the present are combined with the great fabrics of the past science-fiction; the shapes of the West with the transpiring forms of the East.
The robes of Serre are intelligent without being snobby, referential without being appropriatives. The stretch jersey is treated with the same delicacy of the silk moiré and the sunglasses are practically stylized like the pockets.
But these combinations are not a simple find. Many of the scarves in his fall collection, for example, were printed with the word “Futurewear”, thus imagining a future affected by the problems of the present.
And then there is the crescent moon, which simply call it logo does not give its credit necessary to express its meaning. Is it a Muslim iconography? An attempt at diplomacy in fashion? A nod to our astrological obsessions? The symbol of the suspension mode of the iPhone?
Well, it’s not news, since fashion has always fought to tackle the issues that fragment the world, but in this case Marine Serre reflects in his clothes all the reality that afflicts youth as having to survive in a large metropolitan city or simply being perennially online.
And so, these extremely different symbols are intertwined in a naturalness such that nobody has ever even dreamed of it before. Because being young also means being engaged in the world and in its problems and obsessions. And in this not even our clothes can remain silent.
