Alexander Wang will be the new Balenciaga‘s creative director, the American designer will replace Nicolas Ghesquière at the head of the maison after 15 years. The news is pretty much official, neither the PPR group nor the Wang’ staff denied the rumor and the announcement should be released next week. Despite a fierce group of contenders formed by Christopher Kane, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler, Natacha Ramsay (Ghesquière’s right-hand), Bouchra Jarrar (ex designer of Balenciaga) and others, the choice of the French holding company is fall on Wang, attracting fierce criticism of the fashion system. In fact this decision, probably the result of ruthless market reasons, push away French fashion house from the creative experimentation that was an essential condition of Ghesquière and that brought back Balenciaga on the laurels, giving space for stylish easy, understandable and recognizable of Wang, who prefers collections less complicated and focused more on handbags and accessories.
